1. Overview & Commitment

Marinade (package com.marinadelab.app) is an offline-first culinary science tool designed to calculate salt penetration, pH denaturation, and marinating time across global recipes.

We believe personal culinary tools should remain private. This Privacy Policy outlines our data handling practices and confirms our adherence to the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement and User Data policies.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

Marinade does not collect, record, transmit, or monetize any of the following:

  • Personal Identifiable Information (PII): We never ask for names, email addresses, billing addresses, or social accounts.
  • Location Data: The application does not request GPS, coarse location, or cellular network location.
  • Financial or Payment Information: Marinade has no in-app purchases, microtransactions, or payment gateway SDKs.
  • Device or Advertising Identifiers: We do not read Google Advertising IDs (AAID), Android IDs, or IMEI numbers.
  • Third-Party Analytics: No tracking services (such as Google Analytics, Firebase Analytics, or AppsFlyer) are embedded.

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

Marinade utilizes an on-device SQLite database (powered by Android Jetpack Room) to allow complete offline functionality in the kitchen. The following user-generated data is stored exclusively on your device:

  • Bookmarked Recipes: Quick-reference flags for your favorite marinades.
  • Cook Log & Private Notes: Notes, observations, and tips you record for individual dishes.
  • Personal Ratings: Star ratings indicating your taste preferences.
  • Custom Formulas: User-created marinades built using the interactive Marinade Lab builder.

This data never leaves your physical phone. It is not synchronized with any remote cloud server or shared with any external service.

4. Device Permissions & Network Usage

Marinade requests only two fundamental Android permissions, strictly tied to user-facing features:

  • android.permission.INTERNET: Required to query our read-only recipe API (https://api.marinadelab.fyi/v1) for recipe updates, allergy corrections, and culinary guides. These requests transmit standard HTTP caching headers (such as If-None-Match) and never contain personal information or device IDs.
  • android.permission.WAKE_LOCK: Utilized solely when you intentionally toggle Cooking Mode to prevent the screen from timing out while your hands are occupied with kitchen prep.

5. Children's Privacy

Marinade is designed for general audiences interested in cooking. We do not knowingly collect, store, or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13.

6. Data Control & Deletion

Because all user data resides locally on your Android device, you retain total control over your information:

  • You can reset all bookmarks and notes at any time via Settings → Apps → Marinade → Storage → Clear Data.
  • Uninstalling the Marinade app from your phone permanently deletes all locally cached recipes, notes, and database records.
